We do, however, make use of Google Ad Sense to help pay for the costs associated with maintaining this watering hole of humor. Google uses info they have about you to do “interest-based advertising.” The practical result is that the ads you’ll see will be aimed at what some computer algorithm determines to be your interests. If it works, you’ll get more relevant ads, which doesn’t seem all that bad. Here’s some official-type language about it:
We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.
* Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to your users based on their visit to this sites and other sites on the Internet.
You can also change your interests at Google Ads Preferences.
We hope you don’t find the ads too intrusive. If you do, there’s always AdBlock Plus.
