A long, long time ago
On the world’s largest interconnected network of computers
Those LOLcats used to make me… laugh
And I knew I could make a joke
And not be sued by nasty folk
On the RIAA’s behalf
Then along came SOPA / PIPA
The internet’s very own grim reapa
User could not edit
Ars Technica and Reddit
Tumblr, Gawker, Hacker News and Something Awful sang the blues
And every login was refused
The day the LOLcats died
Why, why are laws a thing you can buy
They got paid off, should be laid off, re-election denied
Our web mean more than lawyers, lobbies and lies
So speak up before the internet dies
If you’re like me and grew up watching Full House, then you probably have a soft spot in your heart for Michigan-born comedian Dave Coulier. Coulier played Joey, one of three ‘dads’ to the Tanner girls on the show. Bob Saget played their genetic father, and John Stamos played the ‘cool dude’ uncle, Uncle Jesse.
It all seemed very innocent on the surface, and until I heard this song parody of “Jesse’s Girl” by Kris Fried and the Knights of the Standing O, I was missing the erotic subtext. As you’ll see from this video, there’s a reason evolution hasn’t bred out funny guys in favor of cool guys. It all hinges on… Uncle Jesse’s Girl.
My sister just moved to the D.C. area. She says this song is very accurate about the local culture.
GoRemy’s website is here. Remy is 29 years old and seems to be one of the rare YouTube creators who is making a living off making silly videos — unless he’s somehow paying the bills with his Yelp! reviews:

Had a couple items moved. Everyone I dealt with was very nice and helpful. Final price was as estimated as well. Great job!
Remy’s last video was paid for by lobbyists who are against cap and trade. I like the idea of viral video makers getting in on some of the interest group slush money. For example, wouldn’t you like to see Tay Zonday (the chocolate rain guy), sing a song about a public option for health insurance? “Chocolate rage! Insurance companies routinely deny coverage. Chocolate rage! Public option covers you no matter what your age.”
Of late, the Digital Shorts have been the reason to watch SNL and the music parodies have been the reason to watch the Digital Shorts. Now some of them are finally out of Hulu jail and on YouTube to promote an album by The Lonely Island Boys (the Digital Shorts-making team of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer that Lorne Michaels hired wholesale).
This meme is sweeping China right now, and as obscene as it is, it’s actually a hilarious protest against censorship (a euphemism for which is ‘harmony’ – which sounds a lot like ‘river crabs’ in Chinese).
If you can’t see the subtitles on this video, here is a text translation (cache linked, since the original was predictably censored).
Here’s a rap take-off:
I have yet to find a translation for this one, but I believe there is an attempt now in the comments.
Grass Mud Horse is just one of 10 Baidu Mythical Creatures that are reportedly taking the Chinese internet by storm.
